HOME DECOR and JEWELRY - Handcrafted and Unique, Art for the Home and Art to Wear
We have been making one of a kind handmade or handcrafted boxes for several years here in Pennsylvania. We've recently started making unique handcrafted jewelry in a natural fashion. Each item, whether it is a handcrafted wooden box or a hand-carved piece of jewelry, is unique simply because it is made one at a time, each with a different design and painting by Ruth Ann Hanna. Therefore, she signs and dates each one.
History:We started several years ago by selling our boxes at crafts shows in the area and developed a dedicated following of customers and friends who became repeat customers, so we knew early on that there was an appeal for the unique quality of our handcrafted items. Despite offers from a commercial home shopping network, we've kept on making our creations items one at a time. It's kind of a catch 22, if we expanded and set up an assembly line to make our boxes and silk-screened them instead of hand-painting each one, then we would be losing what we think is one of our core appeals, and that is simply that once it is created there is not another item like it anywhere. This unique quality appeals to our customers and we appreciate and enjoy getting mail from them about how they enjoy the boxes, as well as the handcrafted jewelry. A while ago we stopped showing our items at crafts shows because we've moved to the web; it seems to fit the process better. We now create items and offer them here on the web as they are finished. The problem is that I am not familiar with the web and I'm sure there are other ways to broaden our web reach but until they make computers out of wood, I don't think I will ever catch on. The only thing that has been good about this frustrating effort are the truly helpful people who have contacted me with suggestions about web design. I have really appreciated that and still so. But you won't find many flashing buttons or neon banners here, I've always let Ruth's painting speak for itself. Also, you may wonder why the name WOOTA? Actually, it was the name of our family dog and the name was created by our son Alec when he was 5 years old. We loved Woota so much that we named our then fledgling business Woota Productions since she was such a sensitive soul and a source of great inspiration because of her gentle and whimsical nature.
If our website looks different than normal, it's because we switched to a new web program (Microsoft Expressions) and so far it's been an unmitigated disaster. But we are trying again. Thanks for your patience. Any suggestions, please let us know.
